Wrapped Up In Books

Welcome to the first hour of a new presidency.

Did you watch the Inauguration?  I did – and here are some photos (no video).  There were only about a dozen people on hand to watch it at the pub, but I’ll chalk up the sparse attendance to it being exam time.  I was all too happy to push aside stats for a few hours in exchange for a pint of cider and a chance to watch this.  A reporter from the BBC did show up but (understandably) was only interested in having the American attendees’ opinions on the new administration.

Colour me delighted at the benediction:

“When brown can stick around, when white can do right, when yellow can be mellow, and when the red man can get ahead, man.”  Words of wisdom, those.

Congratulations to President Obama and the people of the US of A.

As a foreigner who wants good things to happen in any and all parts of the world, I wish Americans will work more in harmony with their president. How successful Obama can be as American president will depend on how well his fellow-Americans can rein in their demands for their expectations to be satisfied.

Keep the hopes alive.
